The similarities between the wheels of a car and an aircraft end with the geometry being circular. The aircraft tires are different from the build material to the air inside it. Most of the modern aircraft tires consist of 50% rubber, 45% fabric and 5% steel by weight.
The Aircraft tires are basically two types:
1. Bias Ply type
2. Radial Ply type
These are the tires with different layout of the individual fabrics that goes on the tire.
The tires used in the modern aircraft have many features that separates these tires from any normal tires.
These features are:
1. CHINE
These are a protrusion from the tire that directs the water backward when the plan has to land or takeoff from a wet runway.
2. Grounding
Most of the large aircraft need to discharge the thermostatic charge after landing. This is done with the help of on point that connects aircraft to the ground- aircraft tires, thus the tires need to conduct electricity. Hence discharging any static charge from the aircraft.
3. Fans
Some of the tires which have to operate in high temperature airports, have tires with a fan. This is a cooling system which helps to cool the tire while takeoff and landing in a hot environment.
4. Use of Nitrogen
Unlike other tires aircraft tires use only Nitrogen gas. There are many reasons behind it and they are:

4. Use of Nitrogen
Unlike other tires aircraft tires use only Nitrogen gas. There are many reasons behind it and they are:
- Availability and production: Nitrogen has highest percentage of volume in normal atmoshpheric air exceeding 70%. And the production process is easy.
- Neutral nature: Nitrogen gas is a neutral gas that does not react with other elements easily.
- Less expansion under high change in temperature: An aircraft needs to operate in temperatures ranging from very low to very high temperatures. So in such adverse conditions the tire needs to show a minimum change in volume which can be achieved by the use of Nitrogen gas.
- No moisture equals no corrosion: As the inner hubs of the aircraft is some alloy of metal so the probablity of it being corroded is always there. The atmospheric air consist of some amount of moisture and this can lead to serious corrosion in the aircraft parts. However, with the use of only Nitrogen the possibility of having moisture is eliminated thus eliminating the possibility of any corrosion.
